ELDERS DAILY MEDITATION
“The sacred fire used to heat the rocks represents the eternal fire that burns at the center of the universe.”
–Dr. A.C. Ross (Ehanamani), LAKOTA
Our Sweat Lodge represents the womb of Mother Earth. This is the place of forgiveness. The altar is the place where the Grandfathers are heated. The Sweat Lodge and the altar represent the whole story of the universe. The Sweat Lodge and the ceremonies are sacred. The Great Spirit gave these things to us to help us. He taught us to do the ceremonies in harmony with Mother Earth. We need to know and understand these things.
Great Spirit, let me understand harmony.
SOMETHING EXTRA TO THINK ABOUT
Msit Nókmaq/All My Relations,
Some people seem to not understand how much or how important a Sweat Lodge is to our ways and cultural beliefs. Judeao Christians seem to have the mindset we do not need Sweat Lodge because Their Jesus Christ supposedly died for our sins. They celebrate a man dressed in a red suit with flying deer on a pagan holiday, and celebrate praise to an Easter bunny and chickens made of psychedelic colors.”Then have the audacity to ask us Indians what drugs we use?” Many of us who walk the old ways reply back “Our Beliefs do not include a man named Jesus as our savior or a fat guy in a red suit with flying deer and elf’s,or Easter bunnies and chickens. We have only the Creator and our Ancestors”. The ministers continually fight us in our struggle for them to recognize our Spiritual beliefs apparently they think that all people should be saved in their religious mindset. Therefore we must pray for those people who condemn and persecute us with a holier than thou attitude. All wars have been started by such total disregard for another cultures beliefs. “Show one that has not and I will retract that statement.” The Sweat Lodge was a gift from Creator not man, So what right does any man have to determine who receives one and who does not? Man is not my Creator yet man apparently likes playing God.

Gitsch Manito-Creator, Wásóq-Spiritworld, Please continue to allow us strength and to help those who fear us so that they will know our ways are respectable and honorable. Thank you for showing us a way to pray without passing a basket and speaking truly from the heart. Thank you for teaching us to not walk in ways that would disrespect you or our ancestors.
Welálin-ThankYou, Msit Nókmaq, Chi~Miigwetch, Mitauke Oyasin
